Fahd Burki (b. 1981, Lahore, Pakistan) is a contemporary artist whose work constructs a personal mythology through symbolic archetypes, blending primitivism and science fiction. His art eschews chronological categorization, reducing ideas to their most essential elements with a graphic sensibility. Burki’s creations, often totemic and static, oscillate between body and architecture, reflecting states of being. His compositions are characterized by closed forms, symmetry, and a sense of interior possibility, evoking subjective unity and universal monumentalism. Burki graduated from the National College of Arts, Lahore, in 2003 and earned a Postgraduate Diploma from the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 2010. Represented by Grey Noise gallery in Dubai, he received the prestigious John Jones Award at Art Dubai in 2013. His work has been featured in prominent solo and group exhibitions internationally, including the 9th Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, Sweden (2017); National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (2016); Gwangju Biennale 11, South Korea (2016); Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA), Oslo (2016); Dhaka Art Summit (2016); and Carré D’Art, Nîmes, France (2014). In addition, Burki’s works have been showcased at institutions like the Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai, Zachęta – National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, and the British Council Headquarters in London. A monograph of his work was published in collaboration with Skira editore in 2014, solidifying his international acclaim.
